WP-MailingList
This is more of a traditional mailing list script in that it is configurable in two parts: newsletter mailing list and blog updates.
Some strong points:
- Plug and play - no installation required
- Gets more information than just an email address (i.e. first/last name, address, phone - all optional except email)
- Can add/edit/delete email addresses
- Can customize the emails sent for blog updates
- Allows you to email registered blog members as well as mailing list subscribers
- Requires double opt in
But based on my experiences with this plugin, there are quite a few draw backs to the average users:
- Coding that can cause a few errors (DB, PHP, and otherwise)
- Very little documentation and does not include a read me files or instructions for use
- Can’t import/export email addresses
- Can’t control email notifications on a post by post or category basis
This is a feature rich mailing list script, however, it would prove useful is you planned to email your blog’s registered users along with blog updates.
Since this plugin is in the early stages of development, as of this writing, you should be moderately comfortable with PHP for modifications when necessary — and I would not recommend it for a WordPress novice.

Thanks Teli for the review and link. I’ll be trying this plugin today.

In related news - I recently released a plugin for Wordpress that allows you to easily drop phplist subscriber forms into existing wordpress pages. More information at WordPress PHPList Plugin
It’s more of a lightweight version of WP-PHPLIST. It doesn’t allow you to manage PHPList through wordpress. It’s main goal is to simplfy integration for the end-user subscriber forms.

Thank you so much for this. I need a mailing list plugin for a Wordpress-powered CMS-type site (http://www.gmuMUN.org) and this list has helped me find exactly what I needed…espeically since I’d never heard of any but Subscribe2 before!
Great resource, thanks again.

Thanks for the list of available Plugins. So What’s your conclusion? For example, what do you use in this blog?
