WP-PHPList
This is a WordPress plugin that can help you manage your PHPList mailing lists from the WordPress admin panel. Although it’s not a stand alone plugin, it does allow for easy management, subscription, unsubscription, and mailing of your subscribers from the WordPress admin panel. It does require that you have the PHPList software installed and configured in order for it to work properly.
The PHPList software is more of a heavy duty solution for your needs. It allows you to send blog updates to the subscribers because of it’s RSS to Email function and it also allows you to manage multiple lists.
If you’re simply looking for a way to update your subscribers to new entries on the blog, I would call this overkill, but if you need to manage a number of different lists, for instance, with this blog I currently have 3 mailing lists for customers, blog updates, and regular newsletter - then PHPList with WP-PHPList may be a good solution.
I wouldn’t recommend this software for the novice user either. It is fairly straight forward and well documented, but one should feel at least moderately secure with PHP and MySQL in the event of any errors popping up.

Thanks Teli for the review and link. I’ll be trying this plugin today.

In related news - I recently released a plugin for Wordpress that allows you to easily drop phplist subscriber forms into existing wordpress pages. More information at WordPress PHPList Plugin
It’s more of a lightweight version of WP-PHPLIST. It doesn’t allow you to manage PHPList through wordpress. It’s main goal is to simplfy integration for the end-user subscriber forms.

Thank you so much for this. I need a mailing list plugin for a Wordpress-powered CMS-type site (http://www.gmuMUN.org) and this list has helped me find exactly what I needed…espeically since I’d never heard of any but Subscribe2 before!
Great resource, thanks again.
