This is a great post and answers my question exactly.
The only thing I am left wondering is: I just found this post today with a google search and it was written in 2005, would the author care to post an update? I am sure in the last 4 years things have change, there might be additions etc... I would love to hear your opinions on the current sate of things in the WP mailing list/blog update world...
Thanks for the post

Thanks for the info. I'll have to try them out. Which of these would you consider the most user-friendly?

Ok, I'm not what you would call technologically savey. I'm looking for an email notification program that doesn't require me to edit php and the like to set it up. I'm hoping for something I can just add to the widgets area on my wordpress page and go from there. I'm just looking for something simple I can get up and running right now with the plan being to install something with more features once I learn more about editing my websites. I hope you can help with this. Thank you, Max

Thanks for the list of available Plugins. So What's your conclusion? For example, what do you use in this blog?

Thank you so much for this. I need a mailing list plugin for a Wordpress-powered CMS-type site (http://www.gmuMUN.org) and this list has helped me find exactly what I needed...espeically since I'd never heard of any but Subscribe2 before!

Great resource, thanks again.

In related news - I recently released a plugin for Wordpress that allows you to easily drop phplist subscriber forms into existing wordpress pages. More information at WordPress PHPList Plugin

It's more of a lightweight version of WP-PHPLIST. It doesn't allow you to manage PHPList through wordpress. It's main goal is to simplfy integration for the end-user subscriber forms.
