When Google first announced its blog search engine, they made it clear you would need to go through avenues like Technorati to get your blog listed.
That’s changing, as Google has announced they will be allowing direct pings to their blog search engine:
Blogging providers who syndicate RSS/Atom/XML and want to be included in our Blog Search index can now ping us directly.
If you believe your blog isn’t already listed in the search engine, you can submit it manually. Then, go ahead and update your ping services list. (Ping-o-matic should be supporting them soon enough, but if you’ve had trouble with Ping-o-matic in the past or prefer to monitor your list, then make sure to add Google’s blog search engine.)

Speaking of Google, I ran across this today–

I guess it’s a way to optimize landing pages. Not exactly sure how that will work for blogs tho?

I think there is no need to submit it manually. Get a linkback from any website, or from your own website and get listed. its that easy. right?

Hi Vans,
The Google Blog Search and the Google Search are different. To get spidered for the regular search, all that’s usually needed is a link from an already established website. Prior to this, getting listed in the Blog Search meant you needed to be listed in another blog search engine like Technorati.
That said, there isn’t a need to submit it manually unless your blog isn’t pinging the other major blog search engines (namely, Technorati) like it should be.
However, it’s a good move that Google has made and it means that it may eventually be able to bypass using an outside service like Technorati for the listings and start having people notify them directly.

The best way to get your blog listed is getting inbound links from other websites (making sure those websites are listed in Google).

Google search and Google blog search are two separate search engines.
To get listed in Google search, you should get backlinks from already indexed sites. However, to get in Google blog search, you need to, somehow, tell them you have a blog that was updated. The way to do so is by listing your blog in Technorati or pinging Google blog search directly.
Hopefully this clarifies for anyone who may read your comment.
