It’s wonderful to see bloggers thinking outside of the box. While others are paying anywhere from $10–$500+ for each blogger to write about their product or website, one blogger only needs to shell out $2 each.

How would you like to promote your product while building a ton of back links to your website for only $2 each? Simple, offer your readers $2 to help you promote your free ebook and let it go viral. That’s exactly what Pedro Sardinha is doing.

How it Works

One blogger writes a post about the book, then tells her readers how they too can earn $2 from their blog. When those bloggers finished writing their blog entry, they should return to Pedro’s website and leave a comment with their PayPal e-mail address so he can send them some cash.

Why it Works

Writing a post about the ebook only takes about 5 minutes (unless you’re like me and feel like dissecting the method). $2 for 5 minutes of work is like getting easy money and people like easy money. Those bloggers will rarely think about, or go through the trouble, of signing up to a service which would pay them $10 or more to write a similar blog entry.

This marketing campaign is a variation of one of the techniques I discussed in Three Creative Link Building Techniques. Instead of just offering up a freebie or holding a contest, which may or may not have yielded the desired results, Pedro’s ensuring that his campaign works by adding a guaranteed return for the participants.

The Free Factor

Pedro’s ebook is free, so one has to wonder why he would spend $2 per person to help distribute it. It’s because the ebook is helping him to build an e-mail list and earn a back-end income through the affiliate links throughout the ebook (plus, branding has no price). In case you’re wondering, I did download and read the ebook before writing this entry — it’s pretty good if you’re interested.

Let’s do a little math to illustrate what I mean. (I’m going to yank some numbers out of thin air, so keep that in mind. Pedro’s — and your — mileage may vary.) If Pedro receives links from 150 blogs which, combined, sent him 2,000 people. Of those 2,000 people, 1,800 people downloaded Pedro’s ebook, and of those 1,800 only 90 of them bought into one of the programs that Pedro recommends within the ebook. If he makes $25 per sale, then Pedro would have made $2250 and all it cost him was $300. Net profit? $1,950.

Of course, if you’re going to do something like this, you need to think about your budget, terms, and track your ROI so you can tweak it for future campaigns. In any event, it pays to be creative and think outside of the box. Learn by the examples of others, but be sure to add your own flare to it.
