The moment you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. The newest version of WordPress, 2.3 nicknamed ‘Dexter’, has finally been released and is ready for download. This release only sports a few new features, but they shouldn’t be taken lightly. The native tag support means that you can ditch the extra plugins which still getting the tagging goodness, plus the new URL handling will work wonders for broken links and SEO. Expect a more in depth write up as I’ve been trying out this new version since it was Beta 1 and have documented my thoughts along the way. Plus, expect some updates to the plugin/themes.

I always look forward to WP updates, and 2.3 was no exception. I Upgraded as soon as I found out it was available…
However, there seems to be a small wrinkle… a ghost in the machine. I don’t know. Maybe it’s me… but… After I did the upgrade, at the top of my main page, there is an error message that says this:
“.. WordPress database error: [Table 'twanslist.wp_twanslistcategories' doesn't exist] SELECT cat_name FROM wp_twanslistcategories ORDER BY cat_name ASC ..”
This message only appears on the home page. Nowhere else. The site seems to function just fine otherwise. Also, this same problem appears on every upgraded WP site I own.
Is anyone else having this problem? Can someone please advise me on what to do bout it?
Best regards,
AJ

Your theme (or a plugin) is using code that’s not compatible with WP 2.3; please see the notice in the WP Support forums for more information.
Good luck.

Hi Teli,
I really want to get Blogrush on my wordpress blog but due to the fact that it doesn’t allow CSS editing (like Blospot) I am having a hard time figuring out what to do. I felt excited when I found out that version 2.3 is released but the process of upgrading it seems quite mind-boggling.
Can you do a simplified step-by-step guide for ordinary people who can’t follow the technical roller-coaster?
I will be looking out for you reply.
Thanks a lot,
Michael

Hi Michael,
Adding BlogRush to WP.com has nothing to do with CSS and everything to do with what’s allowed in their Text widgets.
Put plainly, you can’t add JavaScript or other non-HTML code to your WP.com blog for security reasons. Therefore getting BlogRush up won’t be possible on that blog. Sorry. You’ll need to add the widget to your own self-hosted WP blog.
As for upgrading WordPress, I’ve already done a WP upgrade video tutorial. Although it’s about upgrading to 2.1, the information is still applicable. I hope it helps.
