(Cue crickets chirping.)
This blog has been unseasonably quiet, not because I no longer care, but because I’ve been occupied elsewhere. A good chunk of my time has been divided between updating my current scripts, managing my website geared specifically toward affiliate marketers, and client projects. But another chunk of my time (the time I would usually spend finding, writing, and polishing content here) is going toward preparing a full fledged WordPress reference guide.
Unlike the previous guide I published at this website which was a short ebook detailing a specific area of WordPress for niche marketing and SEO purposes, this new book will be a beginner through intermediate user’s manual of sorts. It will, of course, contain a section on SEO and marketing, but a lot of it will be on simply using and wrapping one’s mind around WordPress.
Also unlike the previous guide, I’m thinking strongly of having this book published in print rather than downloadable format. It’s far easier, I’ve found, to use a reference guide when you have a hard copy sitting next to your computer rather than needing to switch between windows while trying to follow along.
The outline, and about half the content of the book has been completed. Certain parts I’m holding off on simply because WordPress 2.7, due out in November 2008, heralds some massive changes that I wish to include in the book as well.
So, there you have it. A WordPress book is cooking. That’s why it’s been quiet around here. I will, however, work to update this blog with every free moment I get. ![]()

Cool…
Have you got plans for the price, how big the book etc
# September 15th, 2008
Hey Jermayn,
To be forthright, I haven’t truly thought about length and pricing. When it comes to length, I’m really just writing according to the outline I’ve created and will probably add/remove pages as I edit. If I had to give a round about estimate, I’d say it would be roughly 200-250 pages, possibly more.
Pricing, it will probably be in the same area as other technical manuals (around $30-$50), but it ultimately depends on the length and publishing options.
When I flesh out the complete details, I’ll certainly post them up.

This is wonderful news Teli.
Will be watching for news on your progress.

Hi Teli,
Congrats on your book. I think it’s a great idea!
I assume you’re going to self-publish with the Print-On-Demand model? If so, I heard that the only way a POD author can get onto Amazon is by using their POD service: http://www.booksurge.com/. (You probably already know this but just in case…)
I’m a fair proofreader if you need someone to review it ahead of time
(Yeah, I’m angling for a preview!)
On a totally separate note - would you tell me what I need to do to get rid of the ridiculous blue blog in front of my custom header image at http://parks4sale.com? It was fine until I upgraded to WP 2.6.1.
Thanks so much, Teli! Hope you’re doing well!
Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the tip. I had my suspicions, but confirmation is nice. As for POD, nothing is set in stone yet.
Regarding your blog, I’m not seeing what you’re seeing. In fact, I’m seeing no blue whatsoever in your header. I’m seeing what appears to be a header image with a large white rectangle. My recommendation is simply to take the original Kubrick header and modify it by adding your preferred header image using Photoshop or another image editing program, and then upload it to your theme’s image folder. (Always back up first.)

Mark, one problem is, you scale down a gigantic picture to fit in your blog rather than actually editing it. That takes about 8 seconds on my DSL while loading a few pages at once.
The size is more than 600K instead of just under 50K for that kind and size of image.
Regarding the blue block, I can’t see the block or custom image header either.
Teli, good luck with your project. I’m testing WP 2.7 partially last weekend. I like it very much.

With the WP update due in November does this mean the book will be available for the Christmas season? It would be a perfect gift!
# September 22nd, 2008
Hey Richard,
Um, I hope so. I’m waiting until sometime in Oct. to fill out some of the more WP version dependent sections so that WP will be closer to a finished product and hopefully the editing will only take me a couple weeks which means it should be available by the first week December…if all goes according to plan.
