Hello Everyone!

I'm no expert either, and I'm trying to understand pages. I like pages better the posts (and I've used them too much! :) ) ... What I am trying to figure out is if I can create a post on a seperate page, or can I create a post that is like a seperate page?

I haven't explained myself well, but on my blog, for example, I use pages to differentiate the sections of the industry (e.g. new cars, used cars, parts, and services). When I write topics under these four categories, I create subpages but this creates too much clutter on right side bar... I'm trying to reconcile the idea of posts and pages, and I'm not doing a good job...

Any ideas?

To me the use of pages brings a WordPress blog much closer to a content management system (CMS platform) and I think that is a useful format for content that aren't restricted to time, i.e. will be useful for a much longer time.
And the benefit is also that pages are visible and can be organized in a hierarchy and structure to make the site much more organized compared to the visitor experience that people have with a blog.

I use a combination of blog posts and many web pages in my site IslandVacationTips.com and think that should be a useful set-up.
Best for your success!

Hello Teli,
Although I'd like to add an About, Contact, and Privacy page. I would like to do it in a manner that does not create tabs at the top of the page next to the 'Home' tab. I'd just like to add a link in the footer pointing to the page, such as you have your Privacy, Disclaimer in the footer.
How do I go about doing that?

Howdy,

I can't for the life of me understand how to use the Pages. I created a subpage but found that to be entirely useless since the viewer cannot access the subpage unless I insert it into the sidebar. Also, what Page Order, Page Slug, and Parent Page do?

I'm testing Wordpress's features out before transferring my blog over to Wordpress, and I confess that understanding Wordpress is significantly different than Blogger Beta.

Is there a comprehensive site you know of that explains all this stuff?

Thanks,

Thomas

Hi Lawrence,
Welcome to the blog. Your 2 cents are always welcome here :).

And I really appreciate your sharing because using pages as a "series hub" is an excellent idea!

I realize I am stumbling upon this post quite late (I just found this awesome blog). However, I thought I would add my two cents on Pages. However, being a new blogger, I am definitely not authoritative on this issue.

I am currently using a Page to provide a "home base" for a series I am writing. I decided this would help readers follow it easier, especially if they miss a post. You can check out the concept here: Series - Kill Your Mouse.

I've used pages for things like like an archive summary, glossary, link/resource pages and even a quiz. They help give a blog the feel and functionality of a "regular" website.
