It seems something did come from Google purchasing Urchin - Google Analytics. You can add feature rich tracking to your website.
Google Analytics tracks keywords, not only for Google searches, but other search engines. It also gives you an overview of who your visitors are, where they’re coming from, and where they go on your site. Google Analytics integrates with AdWords - so anyone with an AdWords account can log in and view their stats.
I should probably mention here that Google Analytics is mainly geared towards web merchants and those who use online forms of advertising such as PPC, however, I can see a benefit to any webmaster who wants to see where their site is earning or losing money.
The best part is: Google Analytics is free and there’s already a WordPress plugin.
I’ve already signed up one of my websites just to test it - one thing that caught me off guard was the request for my phone number. First and last name I can understand, but phone number? Just to see some stats? But, it wasn’t a problem for me as I already have an AdWords account, I just thought it was a little odd. I wonder if Google is getting into the cold calling business a.k.a. telemarketing.

There is another great product (open source) with a simpler plugin http://wp-plugins.net/ (go to Search & Stats).
This is better Google Analystic IMO.

It’s a great offering from Google. I worry about an overreliance on their services compared to ones we retain ownership and control of.
