WordPress is a free open source software which can be used to help you earn money, gain recognition, or otherwise allow you to have a voice on the web — it’s only fair that you give something back to the community.
You don’t have to donate money, especially if you don’t have it to give, but consider helping out in the forums, provide a link back to WordPress, or helping to develop software features if you’re able.
Without such a strong and appreciative community, we would not have WordPress. The same is true of any open source software that is available to you for free. If you find use in it or it helps you attain something you’ve been striving for, remember to spread the love and give back to the community and the development team.
